Running around Mauritius

Do you know what is one of the best things to do when it’s cold and it’s in the middle of winter in France? No, it’s not like curling up in a blanket on your couch and watching TV. It’s not about swallowing tons of vitamin C pills to stay awake either.

No, no, no, the thing that can allow you to survive our harsh winters is to run in the sun. For having tested it, spending a few days in a warm and sunny country, during the Christmas holidays, is a real booster.

Your body will come back to life, trust us traveler friends. And this year, we recommend Mauritius as a destination!

Pro tip: this island is best visited in November, and you’ll make the most of your free time by renting a holiday villa.

As you know us by heart, you know that we did not lie on the beach to bubble all day. No, our thing was to travel Mauritius, long, wide and cross. For that, you think of hiring a car well in advance (not like us), and you will be able to profit. Remember to drive on the left, like the British.

Well, let’s get on with it, seriously, what can we do in Mauritius? To give you an idea, we were on the East Coast, near Belle-Mare.

We start slowly with an introduction to the flora of Mauritius. It is important to know the trees well. Between the pepper trees, the cinnamon trees, the hundreds of palm trees, you have plenty to do. For the record, it is in the city of Grapefruit. Well, there’s even a turtle enclosure, but we’re always a little sad to see caged animals.

If you are motivated, you can push to Port-Louis, the capital. To tell you the truth, little interest in visiting the city, except perhaps its market. You can also take the classic photo of the umbrella aisle at Caudan Waterfront, a shopping mall. You can also have a drink, you decide.

Blue Bay Beach, in the South East of Mauritius, is what you are looking for when you are on vacation in this kind of destination. Crazy shades of blue, transparent water, coconut palms and very white sand. In short, all the snapshots of a successful postcard.

As a bonus, you have a nice view of the Ile des Deux Cocos… You can go there by boat, the beach is public. Just know that a 5-star hotel sits on the Island.

Take the opportunity to have a bite to eat, there are lots of little huts around the beach, which make local dishes, spicy or not, it all depends on whether you have an armored mouth. The advantage is that it is not expensive. Another thing to note is that, in Mauritius, you have lots of trucks selling ice cream, with the same little 10-second music playing in a loop!

It’s also a nice place for snorkelling. You’ll find lots of glass bottom boats spinning around the bay that will take you for 7 € (300 rupees) / person. Diving equipment is even provided.

Are you looking for a small, quiet public beach? Do you like chilli? Then you will find your happiness at Pointe aux Piments. It’s in the West of Mauritius. For your information, access is just after the Meridien resort. You’ll be fine, you have trees to bubble in the shade. There are even a few fish in the water.

There you have it, my latest run-through of Mauritius.
